The Afrikaner People's Party (Afrikaner Volksparty in Afrikaans) was founded in 2008 as a breakaway group of the Reconstructed National Party(Herstigte Nasionale Party), seeing itself as the only true continuation of the original National Party, which is also reflected in its symbols.
The party flag is divided by a white Scandinavian-type cross into four parts: green at the top and bottom hoist, red at top fly and blue at bottom fly. The colours are borrowed from the flag of theTransvaal. The red stands for struggle, white for purity and nationalism, blue for faith and freedom, and green for growth and life force. The cross symbolises the party's stance that the whole country is owned by the Afrikaner people, as well as the fact that they have introduced the Calvinist Reformation (the only true faith, according to them) to this part of the world (Source: Partywebsite).

The party emblem is partly derived from that of the Reconstructed National Party, but displays four bugle horns instead of three. These are coloured red, white and blue. The shield is quartered white and green, with
one horn in each quarter. Beneath the shield is a green ribbon with white inscription VRYHEID VOLK VADERLAND ("Freedom, People, Fatherland"). A date is inscribed in white on each of the horns:
- dexter chief: 1914 - when the original National Partywas founded;
- sinister chief: 1934 - when part of the National Party rejected a merge with the United Party and continued as a separate party;
- dexter base: 1969 - when the Reconstructed National Partybroke away from the National Party; and
- sinister base: 2008 - when the Afrikaner People's Party broke away from the Reconstructed National Party.
